Moving From Excess as Sexy to Sharing as Normal
I would love to see our culture move towards material excess being regarded as gross and weird, undesirable, and as the dis-ease that it is, and not to move into condemnation - which is another disease of our culture - but instead towards kindness and compassion towards any of our family who are afflicted by this detrimental condition. After someone has what they need, it is normal and natural to become a helpful contributor to the world around them and to share with others whatever has been gathered in excess. In this disease culture it has become normal instead for individuals to hoard, glutton, and develop wealth tumors. Can we shift as a people to seeing wealth tumors as disease and to offer love, support, and encouragement for healing to whomever has been caught in this unhealthy programming? And instead of dreaming, fantasizing, and grinding our life’s energy away towards developing wealth tumors ourselves, can we shift entirely towards having our needs met in the most profound and beautiful, simple and perfect ways, and then helping those around us experience all needs met as well? Once our needs are met, can we put any extra energy into craftsmanship, art and music, making things beautiful, experiencing perfect moments, enjoying the sunshine on our skin, helping our elders, teaching the children any useful skills we’ve learned, building rich soil, writing and telling amazing stories, gathering around our community fires, listening to the birds and swinging in our hammocks… There is so much goodness to cultivate and experience together. And no, that 10th pair of shoes isn’t going to meet this need. Our glossy magazines, cardboard figure celebrities, and more is better culture don’t have anything but plastic to sell us. What if all of us weren’t impressed by wealth UNTIL it was utilized for the common good? What if images of great wealth sickened and repulsed us UNTIL we saw the homeless people being invited to reside in the mansions, the Bugatti being turned into clean transportation for whomever needed it, and the jet setting around the world shifted to environmental cleanup and communal responsibility? What if images of great individual hoarding were replaced entirely with all needs being met for everyone around the globe, the beauty that happy people create, and the majesty of Earth being replenished by a culture who values nature? What if we placed all of our value and worth in being happy healthy individuals who share with each other, create beauty together, uphold the Earth, are helpful and kind, and contribute to the world around us in powerfully loving ways? Let’s know when more is not more and replace it with enough is enough. Let’s share our excess and shift entirely into a culture of sharing. Let us learn what the right amount of anything is and live in that good place together. And let all of us have our needs met in beautiful and perfect ways, feeling peaceful and restful in the enoughness of everything. May it be so.
